There may be some changes coming

I love cooking and you all know that by now.

When I first started this blog it was with the intention of actually just keeping an online recipe binder for myself, a place where I could come and find my favorites and not have to deal with tons of little papers or folders around my kitchen.

As time went by I started getting readers and comments here and there,  and I was surprised that anyone would want to see what I was doing or what I was cooking.  But it thrilled me, it made me happy to know that I was at least inspiring others to get back into cooking and to enjoy it.

Over the years I have come to share many recipes, some my own, some from my Portuguese Heritage, some from cookbooks and others from wonderful online food blogs.  I have always given credit where credit is due, but yes I admit that there has been a time or two where I forgot to add the Credit info under the name of the recipe, purely an oversight on my part and when reminded of it by the owner, I immediately made sure to rectify the error.

Unfortunately I have now fallen victim to a blog who thinks they are entitled, who seems to think that it's ok to steal my posts, copy them word for word, including my own pictures and post it on their website as if it's theirs.  It's disgusting for lack of a better word and frankly it made me sick to my stomach to see so many of my posts being posted as if theirs.

I am not the only one though, as they are stealing from another blogger too, right down to their family posts.  The Gall of some people just never ceases to amaze me.

The blog is kidsrecipes.us and I suggest you all check and make sure that your posts are not also being stolen from your blogs.

Unfortunately this incident comes right on the heels of me taking an online break and coming back all happy, needless to say it has left a really bad taste in my mouth and I'm considering either discontinuing the blog or going private.  For now I've already added the right click disabling script and next step will be to start watermarking all my photos.

I've contacted this person and have already told her to remove all of my posts from her blog, if she doesn't then the next step will be filing legal complaints.

Just wanted to let you all know what was going on and why you suddenly can't right click on anything.  I apologize to my faithful readers who unfortunately have to suffer because of others.  Hopefully everything will be sorted out soon.

Keep Cooking!!!

Sandra

  1. I don't know why this is happening so often these days. I mean can't they just link to your site? Thanks for not stopping I have tried many of your recipies and all have been a hit. As long as I can still print we are good!
Thanks again for all the work you do

  2. Hi Sandra!

I can't even believe it. I went to the link you provided and was SHOCKED to see your post, reposted, verbatim.

What was even funnier (well...sad actually) was the Harvest Moon post that was hijacked. Did you notice how the original author threw in a line to see if the kidsrecipes people do any editing...clearly they don't?!!!

I would take legal action, pronto!

    Blessings to you,
    Val

  3. That is absolutely ridiculous. I checked to see if any of my blog's recipes were there, but it was loading wonky.

Today was the first day that I actually watermarked all of my pictures for my recipe...This post definitely has me thinking that I should continue to do so.

Sorry this happened to you :(

  4. I'm sorry to see this has happened to you. I wish I could tell people that are newer to blogging that it is not a question of if they will have their content ripped off, but when.

I would urge you to not let someone else and their theft influence whether or not you continue your blog. That is letting the nasty people win.

If you want to stop blogging, or make it private, of course that is up to you, I can say I hope you don't because I really enjoy your site, but make sure that it is for the right reasons. That it is what you really want to do, and not a reaction to what one really crappy person has done (steal your content).

Good luck and I hope you are able to get it taken down soon.

  5. UNBELIEVABLE! I went to that site and could not believe what I saw there! I left some comments (using and anonymous, burn-able email address), but I am sure they will not be published.

Please, search the phrase "DMCA TAKEDOWN NOTICE" and do some reading on how to take action and protect your original material.

Good luck, and please don;t cease blogging - I would miss you!

  6. I am really sorry to hear that has happened--theft is hard to deal with :( I hope somehow you can keep posting though--I just made your Beef N Beer sliders the other day ago and we just ate the leftovers for dinner--delicious! We will be making them again. I posted about them on my blog WITH giving your blog credit and a link. Please keep up your great work--some of your other recipes look delicious too! :)

  7. Do a DCMA on them (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Millennium_Copyright_Act). If you have any questions, let me know and I can ask my husband. He is a web developer and knows about all of this stuff much better than I do.

  8. Ha! Make that DMCA not DCMA... sorry about that!

  9. Ok, they even copied your "There may be some changes coming" blog post....that's weird...did you see that?

  10. That's really crappy. :( I love your blog! Everything I've tried on here has been delicious! I hope you keep it around. :)

  13. wow, they even posted THIS post word for word. It makes you wonder what the person managing that blog (if it is a person at all and not some spambot) is thinking?

  14. that soooo terrible!! i hope things get straightened out... you've got a great blog and you deserve the credit.... plagiarism is not flattering.

  15. How awful. I tried to go to their site but it doesn't exist any more - coincidence or were you able to do something about them?

  16. I can totally understand how upsetting that would be. I am so sorry that someone has done this to you!

How did you disable the right click? I would love to learn how to do that. I watermark my pictures even though my blogs no where near as popular as yours!

  18. Sorry my comment showed up twice... feel free to delete it.

I can't believe that they did it again today! With this post, which is clearly not theirs!! How frustrating!!

  19. I hope you don't! That person is so stupid they even reposted this blog!

  20. Wow! I just went over there, and they even copied this post. How did you find out about them?

  21. Oh Sandra, I am so sorry to hear this is happening. I tried the site but it seems like it's been taken down - hopefully. I'm upset for you so I can only imagine how you must feel.Even if they've taken down their blog, they still violated your site and there legal implications for that.

I've shared before how much my family and I love your recipes and how much we appreciate your sharing them with us. Thank you!

  22. Wow, this is absolutely horrible. I know that Pinterest has been having trouble with people crediting the images they pin. It really sucks that some people have to be so unoriginal and unwilling to credit. Not that it is much consolation, but as of right now, the website is down.

After reading the other comments and seeing that many posts are being uploaded word for word, I wonder if they used RSS feed option to post your things to their own blog? Just a thought.

  23. If you go private...I don't wan't to be left out!!! I just found it and love it. I even follow it on facebook. I hate that. People want to blog and gain a following, but don't want to do the work.

  24. So sorry that that happened to you!! I love your blog and hope you keep it up!

  25. Well, that blog is back up today. Very weird...almost like it's programmed to just pick up whatever you've posted, complete with your name! So sorry, Sandra--this is awful!

  26. How awful! I really love your blog and hope that you can get this issue resolved x

  29. Hey, I love all of your blogs. Just so you know...I can only temporarily shut down that site LOL

But I did a little research and that is a Wordpress blog. They have a special process for this type of thing. All the information that you need is here: http://automattic.com/dmca/

I suggest you read and follow all those instructions to get that blog shut down.

    Hope this helps :)

  32. Ya, the link you posted now seems to be a void of any real content and a bunk site. You may try a few more posts before abandoning this blog. Sorry this happened!

  33. Just going thru' your blog today I discovered so many wonderful stories. But the most surprising element was your duped posts. I followed the link you gave, just now, but it has no recipes or anything, just some crap. So maybe your complaints worked. Its distressing to say the least, but sad for all of us cause we wont be able to get your beautiful cooking across. I can only wish you - Good luck for the future. Bad elements can't continue for long, or copy content so easily, but this is a good warning to us all. Do try and post on how we can protect copy from being lifted, in future posts if you can. We can all learn from others mistakes. I wish you well and happy cooking.
