But I find that if I take an extra 10 minutes, I can make meatballs from scratch, with a fresh tomato sauce...it really doesn't take long to cook and the taste is way better than bottled sauce.
MEATBALLS IN TOMATO SAUCE
1 lb ground beef
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1 egg
1 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp pepper
salt
1 tsp garlic powder (I use McCormick's)
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped (You'll need the other half for the sauce)
In a medium bowl, mix all the ingredients together and form into medium sized meatballs. I get about 16 from each batch.
Place in an ungreased oven proof dish and set aside. Preheat the oven to 375º.
TOMATO SAUCE
olive oil
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
1 small can tomato sauce
2 tsp tomato paste
oregano
salt and pepper
1 cup water
Add a little bit of olive oil to the saucepan and then add the onions and garlic, cook over medium heat for a 2 or 3 minutes.
Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for 10 minutes.
Pour over the meatballs.
Sprinkle with Mozzarella cheese
and bake in a 375º oven for about 30 minutes.
Serve with spaghetti!
Oh my goodness, do these look heavenly.. and so simple! Ok.. bookmarkin' another one!
ReplyDeleteMmmm, those look delicious. I have a question though. Is the sauce really tomato-y? The sauce isnt very red, and I didnt know it was spaghetti and meatballs until I read it. Just curious :P Still looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteI'm crazy for meatballs!

Hey Sandra,
ReplyDeleteI'm going to make these this week- I have a question:
I see an egg in your picture and you don't have it listed as an ingredient in the meatballs.
Is there an egg and is it just 1?
email me please

Oh, yum! I've never baked the meatballs in the sauce before. Hmm... I hope I have some ground beef in the freezer. This sounds perfect for Sunday dinner!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing there is an egg? I am going to make these this week!
